Synopsis

The talk will look at the reasons why some sections of the Gaidhealtachd were constantly moving on, or being moved on, using the experience of one family as a thread. We’ll be looking first at Badenoch in the Jacobite period, then at the problems involved in migrating to the central belt. Specific topics will include cattle lifting, the strange case of Old Glenbuchat, the dubious joys of Clackmannan and the problems and pleasures of commuting on the Forth in the early days of steam.
